Hand Washing Booklet Distributed in Cambodia

Global Handwashing Day

October 15th

Cause Vision created a booklet to teach Cambodian Children about Handwashing.

Good hand washing is the first line of defense against the spread of many illnesses, some very serious.  According to the WHO (World Health Organizaiton), 1.1 billion people (15 per cent of the global population) practice open defecation.

Around 1.1 billion people globally do not have access to improved water supply sources whereas 2.4 billion people do not have access to any type of improved sanitation facility.

Thus, about 2 million people die every year due to diarrhoeal diseases, most of them are children less than 5 years of age. The most affected are the populations in developing countries, living in extreme conditions of poverty, normally peri-urban dwellers or rural inhabitants

In Cambodia alone, 8.6 million people do not have access to the toilets.

Washing hands, especially after defecation, is one of the keys to better health in such countries.  Our comic book teaches children and their families, in simple graphics, about the importance of washing hands.

The graphic design was done by Orange Sparkle Ball in Atlanta (Orangesparkleball.com ), and 2,000 copies of booklet was printed and distributed by Cambodian Child’s Dream Organization (Cambodianchildsdream.org)
